Indiana’s going into lockdown tomorrow night, sorta. The governor isn’t being particularly rigid about it, unfortunately.
What I found amusing is that I found out by way of an email from Hi-Lift, the first time in almost 6 years of Jeep ownership that Hi-Lift has been useful to me.

Austin is locking down tomorrow. My wife works for UT-Austin, which I guess is a state agency and not beholden to city mandates. She will likely have to keep going to work.

I wouldn’t want to be the person trying to define “essential”.

I’ve never found Hi-Lift’s or Jack-All’s to be terribly useful. A good winch with some snatch blocks will unstick most vehicles. And rarely does a jack that large come into play under the vehicle. I almost used one once to bend a tie-rod back straight. But tried a ratchet strap first which was much easier to get to and pack up. And u sed the included scissor jack to bend another Jeep’s control arm . Tried to use a Jack-All to unstick my buddy’s truck, it failed horribly and we waited until 4 ATV’s saved us the next day. I gave it away, as it was given onto me; likely after being just as useless. But good on HL for spreading proper information.

I’ve never tried one; they always seemed too dangerous to be worth the risk, but I also generally try to stay out of deep mud. I’ve never found that aspect of off-roading particularly interesting.

Not sure where you’re at, but Wisconsin is doing a “soft” lock-down tomorrow.

Indiana. I suppose “ soft” is a reasonable description of ours.

What’s intere sting, is that you just described every location in the world without even trying.

Mud was never my jam either. But Alberta has plenty of it, and it’s always in the way of where you want to go. Haven’t had a Jeep now in years, but I don’t like the mud any better on my dirt bike either. BUT, wet dirt is generally better than a irborne dust clouds . And softer to fall into.

Seconded. Need to change a tire on a trailer/tractor/bailer in the middle of a field? Bend a fender back out that is touching the tire due to an incident in a sloppy field or path ? I’ve always heard hi-lifts referred to as “farm jacks” and I think that is well earned. Go four wheeling and bring a winch and a snatch strap all day but for somethings that happen in agriculture, a farm jack is quite useful.

I have a hi-lift but have never used it on a vehicle. They are extremely useful around the yard though. I’ve used it to lift stumps out of the ground, pull old concrete posts out, lift a sagging deck to reinforce it temporarily, and as an actual jack to lift a trailer.

Based on what I’ve seen most people (at least here in Wausau) are acting like its just another day. Went for a drive yesterday after work and everyone still seems to be going about their normal business. This kinda thing only leads to moe infected and a more strict lockdown...

Theres definitely a split between the more populous areas and the more rural ones. I’d say Wausau is right on that line. I was about 70 miles north of GB a few weekend back, and heard more than one person say they thought it was a democrat hoax / wasn’t any worse than the flu.
I did see that several rural counties are telling people to fled to their cabins to go home, as the rural counties are much easier overwhelmed and have an older population in general.

My AMC Eagle’s jack is basically a HL but with a hook. Because of the hook it’s actually fairly steady / secure. It’s what I think they were going for. But you know, safe-ish.

Neat. I lived there for about three and a half years. I’ve also lived in Edmonton, and grew up east of Edmonton. Now I’m down in Lethbridge. There’s a few other Albertans around here as well.
